YASS there is a day for everything and today is World Toilet Day. What have your kids flushed down the toilets they shouldn’t have!? Let me know. In my house the Special Kayes have flushed just Barbie heads (don’t ask not sure where the Barbie bodies went), lego, baby wipes, and bath bombs not a good idea. York Region created a fun video showcasing the do’s and don’ts of flushing. Here is the main rule. There are only 3 things that can be flushed down your loo. Pee, toilet paper and poo. We all have a role to play in protecting our waterways. Flushing baby wipes, feminine products, makeup wipes, you name it, are not a good idea and shouldn’t go down your toilet. Even dental floss is a no go. Flushing any of these items down toilets and drains can lead to backups in our homes, problems at our wastewater treatment facilities and can even cause sewage to overflow into our lakes and rivers. Ha! “World Toilet Day”
Just last week it turned into a family discussion. How much toilet paper do you use? My son-in-law & I agreed that my daughter uses too much because each homes toilet seems to get backed up when she is …um using. lol She didn’t take this accusation too great. Thus a huge discussion about who uses what amount when & double flushing. Even my husband had a opinion. Thinking about it & writing this now makes me laugh out loud. I wish I had video. Yes, the crazy family discussions we have. Love my family!

When I was nursing, I was shocked by how many patients would put paper towel down the toilet!! Seriously. Would you do that at home? I expect that maybe from kids, not adults. And don’t get me started on sanitary pads. lol…..

I will show this to my granddaughter. Great video!

We have asked ou children to be very careful and flushing items and so far only a few toys have found their way there.

Great tips. We’re super careful not to put anything down the toilet (no hair, no dental floss even, which is something I used to do, completely unaware that it’s a bad idea).
Also, I find it somewhat amusing that world toilet day falls on the same day as international men’s day. 🙂

Ok seriously I had no clue. It should have it’s own day though. It is royalty as it is the Throne

I work in property management and your minds would be blown by some of the stuff people choose to try to flush.

My brother once flushed my Dad’s car keys down a hotel toilet when we were away. Mom luckily had her set!

I was surprised at how little a friend knew about this problem. She thought I was kidding about not flushing kitchen grease. More education is definitely needed.

A relative of mine ( 9 years old now, but probably 4 when it happened) flushed his underwear down a toilet once.

People definitely need to know what they cannot flush! In our complex a few years back there were homeowners who backed up some pipes because of flushing diapers, eek.
